U.S. History NOTEBOOK GUIDELINES Mrs. Sherman
Your notebook (3" binder - not a zippered portfolio) should have the following sections:
Class notes: In this section you will keep daily class notes. Each day's notes should be dated.
Vocabulary: Vocabulary should be in a separate section of your notebook. The terms should be numbered and you should skip a line between each term. Where appropriate, indicate the chapter number.
Homework: Homework should be in another section of your notebook. All assignments should be dated and indicate the chapter and page of the assignment. You may write on both sides of the page.
Government: This has several subsections

Constitution and Amendments (5 pages): This section will include the articles of the Constitution and a summary of what each includes. You will also add the amendments (indicate the year ratified) to the Constitution as we study them.

Presidents and Vice-Presidents (2 pages): You will keep a list of U.S. presidents and vice-presidents , the year they are sworn into office , and their party. You will add to it as we study each administration.

States and Capitals (2 pages): You will keep a list of the states of the United States, their capitals, and the year of admission. You will add to it as we study the time period.

International Leaders (1 page): You will keep a list of the heads of state and government for the following countries: Canada, China, Egypt, France, Germany, Great Britain, Iraq, Israel, Japan, Mexico, and Russia. In addition, include the Secretary General of the United Nations and the nation he represents.

President's Cabinet (1 page): You will keep a list of the members of President Bush's Cabinet and make any changes that occur during the year. Include the President and Vice President in your list.

Other Government Officials (1 page): Include here the following:1. Press Secretary, 2. Director of the CIA, 3. Director of the FBI, 4. Chairman of the National Security Council, 5. Representative to the United Nations, 6. Surgeon General, 7. Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board, 8. Speaker of the House of Representatives/Party, 9. Majority Leader of the House/Party, 10. Minority Leader of the House/Party, 11. Majority Leader of the Senate/Party, 12. Minority Leader of the Senate/Party, 13. President Pro-Tem of the Senate/Party.

U. S. Supreme Court (1 page): Include here a list of the current justices of the U.S. Supreme Court and their year of appointment to the Court. Indicate the Chief Justice with an asterisk.

Vermont (1 page): You will keep a section on current Vermont leaders which will include the name, political party, and the year of their next election of the Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, Representative to the U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senators (2), Speaker of the Vermont House, President Pro-Tem of the Vermont Senate, Representatives to the Vermont General Assembly who represent Proctor (2), Chittenden (1), Rutland Town (1), Rutland City (4), and members of the Vermont Senate (3) from Rutland County.

Papers/Projects: In this section keep research paper/project assignments and materials
